The Government have an obligation to achieve carbon reductions by 2020. To reach these targets and develop renewable industries, they are giving financial incentives to encourage home owners and organisations to install renewable technologies.

There are 3 schemes available now:

Feed In Tariff scheme (FiTs)

See current FiTs rates
Install electricity generating technology from a low carbon or renewable source and you could benefit from the Feed-In Tariff scheme.
Solar PV ticks the boxes for this scheme. Put panels on your roof and the Feed In Tariff will provide financial support over a period of 20 years.

There are three ways you will benefit from FiTs:
Generation tariff Your energy supplier will pay you an index-linked rate for every kWh of electricity you generate over a period of 20 years.
Export tariff Your energy supplier will pay you an additional rate for every kWh you don’t use but is exported to the grid over a period of 20 years.
Free electricity When you are using electricity during the day while your panels are producing electricity, the generated electricity used directly by you is free. So your energy bills will be lower.

Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The Renewable Heat Incentive is available for commercial businesses and homeowners using biomass or solar thermal to heat space and water. Non-Domestic (or Commercial) RHI has been up and running for some time with customers already seeing financial returns on their investment. The Domestic RHI launched in April 2014 is going to make a huge difference to customers who want to reduce their running costs and reliance on oil. Read more about the RHI.

Green Deal

This scheme helps you make cost-effective energy improvements to your home. A green deal assessor will visit your home and make recommendations to improve its energy efficiency. The Green Deal will find the best ways for you to pay for those improvements. Read more about the Green Deal
